Vaporesso Target PM30 Pod Mod Review

The Vaporesso Target PM30 has emerged as the latest addition to the renowned Target line. In a year dominated by "pod mods," some proving to be impressive while others mere imitations, the PM30 stands out. Let's delve into what Vaporesso has brought to the table with its compact device.

Vaporesso's Commitment to Compactness

Vaporesso is no stranger to the vaping industry, known for dedicating considerable time and effort to research and development. As a former vendor, I can vouch for their product quality, as returns were a rarity. The meticulousness evident in their devices speaks volumes.

Vaporesso Target PM30 Pod Mod

The original Vaporesso Target, released three years ago, featured a small pistol-grip mod bundled with a mouth-to-lung (MTL) tank, capturing the attention of new vapers as an ideal starter kit. The new PM series carries on this tradition but with a complete redesign and enhanced features.

Vaporesso had already ventured into the pod realm with the Target PM80, catering to direct lung vapers seeking voluminous clouds and ample airflow. However, what about those of us who prefer a mouth-to-lung draw with higher nicotine strengths? This is precisely where Vaporesso steps in with the PM30.

Despite its compact size, the Target PM30 boasts an impressive array of features. Geared toward discreet portability, the device is lightweight and constructed with a durable zinc alloy and aluminum blend.

The pods are effortless to fill thanks to the "Push to Fill" technology. By sliding the top of the pod, a small fill port is revealed. This design not only simplifies refilling but also minimizes the chances of leaks, as the pod must be pressed down with the tip of a bottle to fill. Some of Vaporesso's other devices also incorporate a similar feature, found even in higher-end models.

The power control system is highly intuitive, offering three different settings. With three clicks of the button, users can cycle through low, medium, and high power options. Notably, this function automatically detects the coil resistance and adjusts the power output accordingly.

The Target PM30 is available in a wide range of color options, allowing users to customize both the grip and the mod's body. Each finish features polished metal, be it chrome, gunmetal, or black. Regardless of the color combination chosen, the pods themselves are made of smoked plastic, enabling users to monitor their e-liquid levels.

Testing and Performance

I received two units for testing purposes and have been using them for the past couple of weeks. To fully evaluate their capabilities, I decided to use one unit with freebase liquid and the other with salt nicotine. For freebase liquid, I utilized the 0.6-ohm mesh coil, while the 1.2-ohm regular round wire coil was employed for salt nicotine.

The 1.2-ohm coil provides a fantastic experience with salt nicotine. It offers a loose MTL draw, and personally, I would prefer slightly less airflow. The medium power setting has become my preferred choice, delivering almost exactly what I desire in a salt nicotine device. It reminds me of the RPM series of MTL coils, with notably better flavor compared to Smok RPM coils.

The 0.6-ohm mesh coil, suitable for freebase liquid, has more airflow than the 1.2-ohm coil while still technically providing an MTL experience. This coil delivers remarkable flavor and once again outperforms the Smok RPM coils in terms of taste.

It's worth mentioning that, similar to other pod-style Vaporesso devices, the coils are cross-compatible with Voopoo PNP coils. Vaporesso has implemented this feature before, as their sub-ohm tanks are also compatible with Smok Baby Beast coils. This interchangeability is a brilliant idea, as not all shops stock Vaporesso coils and vice versa.

The battery life is impressive when the device is set to the medium power setting. I easily obtained a day and a half of usage. Even on the higher power setting, a full day's worth of battery life is achievable. The Type-C charging allows for a complete charge in about 35 minutes and supports passthrough charging, enabling usage even while the PM30 is being charged.

The pods require a few refills to become accustomed to. Initially, some pressure is needed to open the fill port and allow the juice to flow. It may feel slightly stiff at first but quickly becomes more manageable. I also had a minor mishap with my silver PM30: I accidentally left it on top of my car and drove off! Fortunately, the mod sustained only a scuff, and the pod remained intact.

The Verdict

I am genuinely impressed by the strides made in the "pod mod" category within such a short span. Personally, I find these devices perfect for "on-the-go" situations. I have been particularly pleased with devices like the Suorin SHINE and the Smok RPM family.

Vaporesso has undoubtedly hit a home run with the Target PM series. The PM30 has fully replaced my Smok RPM due to its coils' longevity and superior flavor. The form factor feels comfortable in my hand, and its slim profile allows for effortless pocket carry.

If you're in search of a reliable pod device, the Vaporesso PM30 is a definite contender. The coils are readily available, and even if you struggle to find Vaporesso coils, the Voopoo PNP coils work seamlessly as alternatives. Hopefully, Vaporesso will continue to excel, especially considering its commitment to complying with the PMTA regulations in the United States. This commitment bodes well for future innovations from Vaporesso!
